Arnside is situated in a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, located at the southernmost tip of the Lake District. Rolling limestone hills, marshy plains and deciduous woodlands characterize the surrounding land. Originally a fishing port, the construction of the railway and viaduct in the 19th century made it more accessible to discerning Victorians as a seaside destination.
Arnside Knott is 15 minutes walk from the Rowan Bank and is especially famous for it's splendid views of the Lakes and for its rare butterflies. The area is dotted with a number of ‘Peel Towers’ that were originally built to defend the area against the marauding Scots in the 14th century. The best preserved is Arnside Peel Tower, a few minutes stroll from Rowan Bank.
Stately homes Leighton Hall and Levens Hall, Leighton Moss RSPB nature reserve, Wildlife Oasis, Heron Corn Mill and Silverdale Golf Course are all less than 15 minutes drive away.
Organized walks from Arnside across the bay to Grange-Over-Sands are arranged by the Queens Guide Cedric Robinson MBE on occasions throughout the summer.
Beyond the local attractions of Arnside are the Lakes themselves. Newby Bridge with its Aquarium of the Lakes and steam train. The Beatrix Potter exhibition at Windermere. Lake Cruises and boat hire at Windermere and Ambleside. Grasmere, the home of Wordsworth. Dove Cottage and the Lakes Discovery Museum. All these destinations are a short drive away.

If you want to travel but fancy a change from using the car, Arnside Station is less than 2 minutes walk away. To the North, Grange over Sands, Cark and Cartmel are just a short train journey across the viaduct. To the South, Lancaster is always worth a visit.
